The comm- prefix is one of the most comm-on roots in the English and Romance languages. Over 600 words contain the phrase. Deriving from the Latin com or cum, it means “together” or “with.” This is a perfect etymology for the word comm-unity. The sense of being together and unified, is at the heart of any community. Somehow our efforts become more meaningful in this context. Comm- thus becomes, in itself, a symbol of cohesion. And so it has been minted as our distinct token on the Ravencoin blockchain(C0MM), and a key phrase in Community DAO’s general lexicon.
Introduction
The individual can do nothing alone. It is only in relation to something else, to each other, to humanity, to this or that cause or endeavor or mission, that his or her efforts gain traction and meaning. From the beginning of life, we are members of a variety of communities – family, neighborhood, tribe, church, town, city, county, state, country, world. We are networked, hard wired into these combinations from millennial long processes of evolution, sourced from mysterious origins.
Western civilization has focused on the individual for too long. It is an illusory basis that creates a false impression surrounding the interconnected web of being in which we find ourselves during each moment of life. Unfettered individualism has encouraged selfishness and conflict and disintegration, and even war. Even the most detached, inveterate wanderers, explorers, or self-reliant trailblazers have people or cultures that they are connected to or which they are connecting, who can receive the story, who are perhaps the reason for the story.
At the same time, vibrant and creative individuals are the lifeblood of any organization and civilization. Failed attempts at collectivist utopias and social justice projects from the 20th century also remind us that proper attention must also apply to individual liberty, personal autonomy, and private property. Reconciling the One with the Many, Community, as a function of the move towards universal Decentralization, stands as a banner going forward into a New Age.
We are on the verge of manifesting a paradigm that will radically reshape all of our institutions and models of understanding. At Community DAO, we are conscious of this in our organization’s very name. It is our mission to study and realize this new pattern of collaboration in every facet of life.
Community DAO is a perpetual protocol generator and “crowdwork” mechanism that can be geared towards any new project, anywhere in the world, requiring the backdrop of “community” in order to develop.
Communities are the emerging foundations of a new civilization paradigm built on blockchain, beyond borders and nation-state jurisdictions. As an organizing principle, “community” is the core particle of human effort, over and above, the “individual.” Community DAO thus, as a community of communities, is dedicated to building a world community with streamlined tech, circulating currency, and decentralized governance bodies, so that a new economy can develop as members are able to collaborate on projects from all over the world.
Through visualization design, web3 onboarding/education, organic structuring of governance consensus mechanisms, reporting on the state-of-the-industry and universal modular community building, we seek to establish foundational components enabling you to develop the personal tools necessary to succeed in the contemporary environment.
Tokenomics
Community DAO found its way into tokenomics organically. We needed to simply begin to distribute something more elaborate than points to competing early contributors. The nature of our organization was that there was a “network effect” of “community” before there was any formalized structure for rewarding workers striving to build the Community on an international front. And so, founders and curators had to catch up to the moment and develop a strategy for developing a store of credit with the group that had flocked to the banner of the project in a nascent stage.
Then we discovered Ravencoin and that provided a direct method of minting tokens onto a blockchain to address the organization’s initial need for a baseline token that could be circulated…

Our initial circulating internal token is the C0MM/1 (see 1st chart above), a sub asset token intended to circulate as a store of credit and point system for internal contributors to the organization.
Our primary governance token, however, is the C0MM/DAO, which is a single sub asset token, struck from the initial C0MM, on the Ravencoin blockchain, minted on November 2, 2022. It can be visualized as a WHITEBALL, BLACKBALL, and a variety of other “BALLs” symbolizing different voting procedures. Fundamentally, though, the system revolves around the dynamic between the WHITEBALL, the power to vote, and the BLACKBALL, the power to veto, in the tradition of secret balloting organizations (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackballing) over time. Everyone can get a WHITEBALL. Not everyone can get a BLACKBALL.
While these are “tokens” in the sense that they are digital coins, we prefer to represent these as marbles, as tokens are reminiscent of arcades, and this is not a game. It is much more than a game. This is a voting system. You don’t vote with tokens, you vote with Whiteballs, which originally were white marbles. All assets can be visualized distinctly because we can attach visual data through IPFS to each token/asset/whiteball. This is one of the truly awesome features of the Ravencoin system, especially, in addition to the DNS style naming/branding, which makes for readable and human friendly words, compared to naming conventions on other blockchains.
On November 2, 2022, we minted 8 billion non-reissuable WHITEBALLs, struck from the C0MM/DAO, here:

We also minted 3 non-reissuable BLACKBALLs:

The Whiteball governance token can now be acquired at the Ravenist:
Basically, the way blackballing will work is that there are only and ever will be, 3 of them. There are 2 basic bodies of governance in the DAO as I conceive it. It is a bicameral arrangement, similar to the way representative govts in the West have been forming for centuries, with a Senate and a House of Reps, in the US for example. 1 is based on Numerical voting power, like the house of reps, and is symbolized by holders of the C0MM/DAO white balls. In this house, a whale or whales may start scooping as many up as they can afford and gaining preponderance on voting measures, just like California can come to sway American politics by having so many people living there. But how do we prevent that component from the 51% takeover that has plagued DAOs on ETH and other governments subject to the tyranny of the majority? By requiring the other House to be in concurrence before key measures are passed.
What is that other house? The other house is the “Triumvirate” of Foundation/Marketing/Research at C0MM/DAO, which would reflect the equality of diversity of interests, like the Senate in the US. This enables Rhode Island to have an equal voice on one level as California since both can only send 2 people to the Senate.
In our case, the Triumvirate represents our most active core of meritorious contributors, basically all of our curators in their various fields of expertise, and then the content creators and members of our discord who have begun earning the C0MM/1. We have 160 holders of this token so far, and it consistently bounces up to the top 5 active distributing assets on the RVN chain each week.
So, the heads of each one of these sectors has a black ball. And if any one of these holders throws a black ball, a normal 51% “majority rules” measure is killed, no matter how many white balls have voted from the other house. Normally, they would not want to do this in a general vote, except in an extreme case of a conflict of interests or to prevent some sort of malfeasance, because they are so invested in the organization with time and energy, that they want the system to flow for the most part unhindered through basic majority voting motions.
Most of the time, white balls only will be cast, and the motion that has the most, will carry. But occasionally, divergent interests may feel strongly enough to want to thwart the will of a simple majority.
ETH developers have not really studied the theory of the Concurrent Majority as it has developed in the American system, though it has largely been derailed irl. But you have to have a grasp of it, and how it utilizes something called the “Negative Power,” in order to construct a solid system that will eventually verge on automation of its own accord, like a plant.
In the case that the 51% majority is met with a Blackball, the Whiteballs must then muster a ⅔ majority. This is how vetoes can be overridden in the US. Was also how the theory of Nullification was originally designed to work. If a state nullified an action of the Federal govt, it would necessitate the requirement of a higher % of “yeas” than normal, bringing into play more of the surrounding community by threatening to stop the forward action of the government on a motion, if more voices did not arrive and be heard in time.
In the case that on the 2nd vote, 2 or 3 blackballs show up in the vote, the measure is killed, NO MATTER WHAT. This structure should be adequate to preserve the harmony of an organic, decentralized digital governance system in the 21st century and beyond.
